Stage Prophets Theatrical Society is a not-for-profit charity and amateur musical theatre company with its headquarters in the beautiful Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia. For over 20 years we have been dedicated to creating and sharing volunteer-created live musical theatre productions with and for our community. We produce a large extravagantly staged Broadway-style musical every year in late May or early June along with workshops and other mentoring programs.
In the past, our productions have included Godspell, Joseph, and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat, Les Misérables, Beauty and the Beast, Oliver, Anne and Gilbert, and Fiddler on the Roof. In 2023 we are taking on our largest project ever with the presentation of an arena-style production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar at Acadia University's 1500-seat Andrew H. McCain Arena in Wolfville, Nova Scotia from June 2nd to the 4th.
From its humble beginnings in 2003 with 16 youth wearing tie-dyed t-shirts in a church basement singing their hearts out to Godspell, Stage Prophets has evolved into a large community-based organization whose vision is: “Building a community of joy where everyone is welcome to experience the exceptional”
Our mandate is to offer family-friendly, high-quality musical theatre productions, workshops, and events for the children, youth, adults, and seniors in our community. Our productions are a chance to participate in theatre and experience the thrill of bringing a story to life. Our goal is to involve a very large group of people (sometimes in the hundreds) in an artistic opportunity that incorporates learning, intergenerational interaction, diversity, and cultural awareness in a welcoming, inclusive environment that addresses barriers to participation.
We are a registered, charity advised by a Board of Directors and guiding principles. Our funding comes solely from ticket sales, grants, sponsorships, and donations. Since 2002, Stage Prophets has mounted over 20 shows. Our preparation process involves everyone who wants to participate regardless of their capabilities, either onstage in the performance or in the myriad of offstage components that go into a show. We create an atmosphere where everyone feels valued and has opportunities to share of themselves. From that community of tightly-knit, supportive and passionate individuals, an amazing collective production emerges. So please join us in our adventure .. come along and let's build the exceptional together.
